The Dog

Poems Leave a Comment

Now I am weak and sick and old,
But once upon a time, I was young and bold.
When I was two, a man bought me.
He smiled and said, “I like thee!”

He took me home and gave me to his son.
I liked him at once and we started having fun.
The Father and his son named me Archie.
I loved this boy, Jack, as he took care of me.

We played all the time, from dusk to dawn,
We played on the grass and on their lawn.
But as time passed, and I became weak and old,
They decided that I should be thrown or sold.

One day when I was playing in the snow,
Jack and his Dad came, and they asked me to go.
I didn’t know what to do, so I raised my brow.
Dad shouted at me, “Dog, leave my house now!”

Even Jack had begun to scream and shout.
Then his cruel Father kicked me out.
I was shocked because of their cruelty and unkindness.
Now, I was a normal dog, a creature who was homeless.

I was very thirsty and hungry.
Some boys began to throw stones at me.
I begged for shelter, water and food,
Or something that would cheer up my mood.

No one gave me anything to eat,
And there I was, rotting in the heat.
Other people’s leftovers was what I would eat,
And I had to sleep on the deserted street.

Now, I’m in search of a Master who is kind and good,
Someone, who can give me shelter and food.
Someone, whom I can protect and defend,
Till the journey of my life comes to an end…
